An IBC (Intermediate Bulk Container) tote is an essential tool for modern warehousing and the transportation of liquid products. The container consists of an inner plastic reservoir and a supporting metal frame. The inner tank is blow-molded using high-molecular-weight, high-density polyethylene (HDPE), offering high strength, corrosion resistance, and excellent hygiene standards.
Below are the key safety precautions to follow during the filling process:
Before starting the filling process, inspect the bottom discharge valve thoroughly to ensure there are no signs of damage or potential leakage.
Because the outer surface of an IBC tote cannot always be directly connected to standard anti-static facilities, the following protective measures must be implemented to manage static electricity:
Use a nitrogen cylinder with a thin copper tube to perform nitrogen sealing (blanketing) at the mouth of the IBC tote to displace oxygen and prevent combustion.
During the filling process, water should be sprinkled around the perimeter of the tote to maintain a cool environment and reduce heat buildup.
During periods of extreme heat, filling should be scheduled for the early morning or evening. If the tote feels hot to the touch before filling, secure the lid and douse the exterior with water to cool it down completely before proceeding.
The filling speed must be carefully controlled. Do not fill at a high velocity; the liquid should be introduced slowly to minimize friction and static generation.
Cover the IBC inlet with a heat-insulating, fireproof, and anti-static asbestos cloth (or modern equivalent safety fabric) during filling. This reduces the escape of volatile gases into the surrounding environment.
